Midjourney launches feature to describe images

Midjourney (MJ), the popular Text-to-Image platform, has launched a new “/describe” command that allows users to leverage the AI platform to transform images into words. Previously, MJ would only accept images into their system through uploading them directly to the discord server and it would create variations to it.

Now, with the new /describe feature, MJ has opened up a whole new world of use cases.

  1. Improved accessibility: having image descriptions present on images, this makes content more accessible for people with visual impairments or reading difficulties.

  2. Enhanced searchability: descriptions can enable better search functionality and indexing via search engines.

  3. Use for captions: captions could be auto-generated to provide additional clarity to images

  4. Detailed prompts: descriptions can be used to improve your ability to prompt to craft new variations of an image providing inspiration for prompt engineering.

I gave this a try here. I started by typing “/describe” and a prompt appears to upload an image.

The image I will use is this variation on Google’s logo below that Midjourney had created prior. I am curious if it will pickup on the fact that it is the Google logo.

Once I uploaded this image, MJ output 4 new prompts to describe the image. And yes, it did actually pick up on it being a Google logo!

Another amazing tool that has come out of Midjourney. I’ll keep you posted as I learn more about Midjourney!

President Biden offers his remarks on AI

On Tuesday, April 4th, President Biden delivered brief remarks from the Whitehouse on artificial intelligence. He began his speech by saying:

The timing of his remarks seem to come in relation to the Open Letter we featured in a previous blog that was calling for a 6mo pause on AI.

One reporter asked the President if he felt AI is dangerous and Biden replied,

As the debate surrounding AI and deepfakes continues, celebrities are particularly vulnerable to the creation of deepfakes. In response, Tom Graham, the CEO of the generative AI tech firm Metaphysic, which popularized a deepfake TikTok account spoofing Tom Cruise, has submitted his AI likeness for copyright registration with the U.S. Copyright Office. He wants to know if copyright laws would protect against the unpermitted creation of deepfakes impersonating others.

Despite this effort, the U.S. Copyright Office released guidance in March stating that “works created with the assistance of AI may be copyrightable, provided the work involves sufficient human authorship.” Works created without human intervention and purely by AI are not copyrightable.

Legal experts suggest that if a work of AI contains AI-generated “material” that was originally created by AI, and humans choose or arrange the AI-generated material in a creative way, or change the material that was originally created by AI, it can be protected by copyright.

As the use of deepfake technology continues to evolve, it is likely that copyright laws will need to be updated to keep pace with these developments. In the meantime, those working with AI-generated material should be aware of the current limitations and seek legal advice to ensure that their work is protected by copyright.

I came across this tool that I wanted to share with the botified community. Gamma AI is a powerful AI generator that allows you to generate docs, decks, and webpages in seconds using only text prompts.

The video below does an amazing job showing its capabilities.

If first logged into the platform and was presented with this screen.

I chose webpage and entered my prompt:

The tool suggested an outline for the page.

Sounds good to me… As it generated, it prompted me to pick a theme while I wait.

I chose the dark theme. It had several options including a “surprise me” theme. Once I continued, it built a small website with a homepage, latest newsletter issues (including 3 article ideas), an about page, and a subscribe page. Not too bad to get the wheels turning on an idea!
